On 13 September 2016, Edilene Mateus Porto and her husband Isaque Dias Ferreira were murdered. Both were members of the League of Poor Peasants of Rondônia and the Western Amazon (LCP). They had denounced criminal acts perpetrated by landowners in the area and had already received various death threats.
