On 15 April, Juan Carlos Flores Solís and Myriam Vargas Teutle discovered that their house had been raided for the third time in a period of ten days. Their residence had already been broken into on April 5, when the couple and their family were death threatened, and on April 10, in an attempt to eliminate potential evidence of the first invasion. Juan and Myriam are members of the Peoples’ Front in Defence of Land and Water (Frente de Pueblos en Defensa de la Tierra y el Agua), an organisation which stands for human rights, land, territory, environment and self-determination of Indigenous peoples in the states of Puebla, Morelos and Tlaxcala. In 2021, Flores has accompanied Indigenous Nahua communities fighting against the extraction and contamination of water. Several companies are interested in these territories in order to exploit their resources and generate enough electricity. He also legally followed the process for the recognition of the self-determination of the Santa María Zacatepec community. In 2014, he was imprisoned for 10 months in reprisal for his work in defence of human rights and against the Morelos Integral Project (PIM).
