In July 2025, local residents in the Paktanglung Rural Municipality gathered to protest against the construction of the Upper Tamor Hydropower Project, a 285-megawatt initiative by Tamor Energy Pvt Ltd. The local communities claimed that the company had destroyed sacred cultural sites which are central to the culture of the Yakthung (Limbu) community. Furthermore, the company was alleged to have destroyed ancestral graves and Mundhumi sites without the consent of the indigenous community despite multiple memorandums and meetings with officials.

In March 2026, Business and Human Rights Centre invited Upper Tamor Hydropower Project to respond to the allegations, but it did not.
