Peru: Government convenes Multisectoral Working Group in Chumbivilcas to address conflicts with mining companies

"Convening of the Multisectoral Working Group in Chumbivilcas" - 16 March 2022

The meeting was convened by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, through the Vice-Ministry of Territorial Governance, and will be held in the community of Huininquiri, at 10 a.m.... The invitation was addressed to different social organisations such as the Frente Único de Defensa de los Intereses de Chumbivilcas, Liga Agraria, Ronda Campesina de Chumbivilcas, Comité de Lucha Provincial, among others, as well as to the peasant communities located in the districts of Velille, Ccapacmarca, Santo Tomás, Livitaca, Chamaca and Colquemarca. According to the resolution, the objective is to promote sustainable socio-economic development with a territorial, intercultural and multisectoral approach in this special attention zone. ...This working group is valid for 90 days, extendable for an additional period. It will be made up of a representative of the Presidency of the Ministers’ Council (PCM), as well as others from the ministries of Energy and Mines; Environment; Agrarian Development and Irrigation; Justice and Human Rights; Transport and Communications; Education; Culture; Labour and Employment Promotion; Development and Social Inclusion; Production; Health; Housing, Construction and Sanitation; and Economy and Finance. In addition, a representative of the company Las Bambas, the Provincial Municipality of Chumbivilcas, the Regional Government of Cusco, the Single Front for the Defence of the Interests of Chumbivilcas and communities that form part of the special attention zone, where the social conflict over the Southern Road Corridor Apurímac-Cusco-Arequipa was generated...
