Protestors end Macedonia refinery blockade

Local residents who blocked the OKTA crude oil refinery…in a pollution protest have agreed…to withdraw from the refinery's entrance…after the Government…showed the deal…with OKTA envisaging the placement of two pollution measurement stations near the factory, the additional cleaning of the refinery’s waste disposal channels and a state-paid medical examination of residents in order to determine possible health problems caused by the alleged pollution...People [were] complaining of high emissions of toxic sulphur dioxide gases in the air that have affected their health…The refinery is…owned by Greece’s Hellenic Petroleum.
