“Nearly 300 undocumented Myanmar workers arrested at Thai construction site in Ayutthaya”

According to a report by the Bangkok Post, nearly 300 undocumented Myanmar workers were arrested at a construction site in Ayutthaya, Thailand.

On the morning of September 24, Thai authorities raided a construction site in Ayutthaya Province and arrested a total of 272 Myanmar workers, both men and women, for working illegally. ..

One of the arrested workers stated that around 300 workers, including themselves, had illegally entered Thailand through Mae Sot in Tak Province. They paid about 20,000 baht per person to brokers to secure jobs at the construction site.

It was reported that the workers earned 500 baht per day, while skilled workers received 600 baht. One worker explained that due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, there were very few options other than seeking work in Thailand.

This was the second time in about two years that Thai authorities raided the same construction site.

The Bangkok Post also reported that the arrested undocumented migrant workers would be prosecuted and deported back to Myanmar.
