On 2 January 2023, three activists from the climate action movement "Last Generation" in Italy were arrested following an action where they threw paint at a building in Rome. The activists aimed to protest against the government’s reluctance to transition towards a carbon-neutral economy, pointing to the reopening of old coal power plants and the ongoing fracking operations as evidence. They will face trial for vandalism, potentially risking up to 3 years in prison.
