In what is hoped to be the start of collaborative action around serious rights concerns in an area known as the “mining belt” of India, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre worked with University Law College, Utkal University and Professor Surya Deva in bringing together experts and community leaders to discuss grievance mechanisms in Bhubaneswar, Odisha – an area where these mechanisms are most needed by communities.

These slides feature highlights of the workshop and field visits, including some quotes from speakers and participants. They reflect the need for concerted action among various groups, strong and resolute in themselves, in order to form a stronger movement that will work towards an effective and definitive response to the health, environmental and social impacts that communities have been facing for decades in this resource-rich part of the world.
