Angola: Two Caculo Cabassa Dam construction workers killed in police repression of protest for better working conditions

River Cuanza, Angola

Workers at Caculo Cabaça Hydroelectric Power Station in Angola's Kwanza Norte province, set to become the country's biggest hydropower station, reportedly faced police violence in response to protests over pay and working conditions in May 2022. According to the Trade Union Commission for the Construction Project of the Caculo Cabassa Dam, around 400 striking workers from were repressed by security forces, causing at least two deaths and five injuries.

The Resource Centre asked China Gezhouba Group to respond. The company did not respond.
