This briefing paper, published by the Institute for Human Rights and Business as part of the Nairobi Process, looks at the security and human rights implications of oil and gas exploration in Kenya and the key issues involved.

It also sets out practical recommendations for Kenyan stakeholders to address the challenges, drawing on international lessons from Ghana, Nigeria and Colombia in promoting adherence to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights guiding security provision in the extractives sector.
