KiK has committed to signing the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh...For KiK, the often quite ambitious approach laid out in the accord represents a systemic change with far-reaching consequences. It is designed to ensure that Bangladesh retains the textile industry so vital to the country’s economy, while protecting workers on site. “A key factor in the decision to sign up to the accord was the fact that a large number of international retail companies and other players were making the same commitment,” says Arretz. “The initiative cannot succeed unless everyone concerned pulls together. Although many details are bound to need clarifying at the implementation stage, this is a real opportunity to make an active contribution to ensuring a successful outcome and, in so doing, live up to our corporate obligations.”
