On 8 July 2024, environmental defenders Ebo Mili and Dungge Apang, were detained by the police in Arunachal Pradesh, India and held in preventive custody. Mili is a human rights lawyers from the Idu Michmi tribal community in Roing. The two defenders are well known for their efforts to defend indigenous rights and ecological balance in the region. They have been particularly vocal against large-scale hydropower projects.
