Engineering Works at La Puente Pit

查看所有标签

In order to maintain current levels of production, employment, and royalties and taxes paid by Cerrejón, the company needs to undertake engineering works at the La Puente Pit, located in the northern sector of the Mine within the mining concession. The work consists in moving a 3.5 km stretch of the Bruno Creek 700 metres farther north to protect it from the advancing mining operation. These engineering works are being proposed after detailed studies concluded it is technically, socially, and environmentally feasible. The works will be undertaken while meeting the highest standards and current environmental and social regulations. The engineering works have been:

  • Approved by the national authorities since 1998.
  • Included in the Environmental Management Plan since 2005.
  • Studied by national and international experts — Ingetec (Colombia) and Alluvium (Australia).
  • Detailed designs approved by the National Environmental Permitting Authority since 2014.
