India: Workers protest after not receiving wages and threaten strike until demands are met, incl. co. responses

In July 2023, it was reported that workers at Kalchini Tea Estate in West Bengal staged a protest after not receiving their weekly wages and benefits. The workers threatened to strike until the situation was resolved. The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre asked for a response from Unilever - a buyer of tea from the estate according to its publicly disclosed supplier list - and Lipton (formerly ekaterra) which took over most of Unilever's tea business in 2022. Lipton stated that it does not source from the estate. Full responses are included below.
