Three landless workers disappeared on 14th December 2017, while they were monitoring land that is part of a farm that their group has been occupying since 2015. They claim to have the right over it as part of the process of the agrarian reform. Flávio is the president of a residents’ association, whose vice-president is Marinalva. Jairo is a member of the landless settlement, called Arara. Flávio asked Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT) for help and protection at the beginning of the month as he said that he had been threatened by some farm employees. Marinalva also registered threats the group had been suffering. The farm officially belongs to the timber industry.
