On 13 December 2022, leaders of the Anti-POSCO Movement Ms. Shanti Das, Mr. Abhaya Mallick, Mr. Dillip Kandi, Mr. Narayan Muduli, Mr. Hrudananda Rout, Mr. Megha Das, and Mr. Nutan Das were arrested in Odisha, India. Mr. Nutan Das was previously arrested on 11 April 2022, and released on bail on 18 May 2022. Shanti Das was also previously harassed in November 2022. On 27 of December 2022, Mr. Ananta Swain of Dhinkia village was also arrested. These arrests comes after a crackdown on Anti-POSCO (now Anti-Jindal) activists, including the arrest of the movement's leadre Mr. Debendra Swain. The movement supports peaceful protest by the local community against the land acquisition by the district administration for Jindal Steel Work Utkal Limited. Police reportedly threatens locals and allows illegal tree cutting, cropfield destruction, house demolitions and displacement.
