Minerals keep conflict alive [Dem. Rep. of Congo]

The United Nations (UN) report on illegal exploitation of natural resources and other forms of wealth states the DRC war had been fuelled by "elite networks" with the main aim of stripping the country of its riches...They fuel the war by mining coltan, a rare metal used in manufacturing cellphones...There are attempts at curbing coltan trade similar to the controls on trading in so-called blood diamonds in war-torn countries.
