Qatar: Hundreds of security guards at QSS protest over labour abuses incl. non-payment of full wages & overtime; incl. co. response

Hundreds of workers employed at Qatar Security Services (one of Bin Arbaid Group companies) went on protest at various locations against a number of labour rights violations, including non-payment full salaries or payments for overtime work, and to demand their right to days off. Workers claim that the company did not pay them for overtime work and that they have received only a half of their salary. One worker told Doha News that the manager of the company has threatened to terminate their contracts and send them back to their country if they complain to the authority.

According to a statement by Qatar’s Government Communication Office (GCO), the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs has summoned the company and the company has pledged to address all grievances immediately. GCO has also confirmed that the Qatari authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure the company's compliance with Qatari labour laws.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre contacted Qatar Security Services (QSS) for a response; responding on its behalf, parent company Bin Arbaid Group said that the issue has been resolved in coordination with Ministry of Labor, that guards resumed their work from Sunday 09/05/2021, and that the company is committed to comply with local regulations.
