“Korea Sanken labour union initiates sit-in! Unilateral dissolution of the company will not be accepted”, 21 July 2020 

On July 9 the Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. [Sanken Electric], based in Niiza city in Saitama prefecture, made an announcement on its website. It said, “During our board meeting today, we decided to dissolve our subsidiary, Korea Sanken Co. Ltd. [Korea Sanken].” Neither the Korea Sanken labour union nor the Korea Sanken president were notified of this decision prior to the announcement.

...The Korea Sanken labour union signed an agreement with Sanken Electric to ensure the company sought the former’s approval before making major decisions on employee dismissals. With its announcement about closing Korea Sanken, Sanken Electronics has unilaterally destroyed that agreement.

...We thus demand the following from the Korea Sanken management and the Sanken Electric board:

  • The Korea Sanken management and the Sanken Electric board must reverse its deceptive and illegal decision on the dissolution and liquidation of Korea Sanken.
  • The Korea Sanken management and the Sanken Electric board must respect the collective agreement with the Korea Sanken labour union and seek a written agreement...
