The mining conflicts in Paruro and Chumbivilcas

...Once the crisis is over, the government must concentrate on addressing the social conflict that has been reactivated in the southern Peruvian Andes, the blockades of the mining corridor in Cusco and Apurímac, and the rejection of the Tia Maria project in Arequipa are [critical issues] that the government of Vizcarra cannot ignore...Like two cases that have been activated in recent weeks in the provinces of Chumbivilcas and Paruro in Cuzco, due to the use of the mining corridor of the company MMG Las Bambas...Last October 1 in the district of Ccapacmarca, the communities denounce [serious] environmental contamination due to the passage of more than 500 trucks daily from the mine, as well as the unconsented construction of the roads to the communities, and the non-payment for the right of servitude and compensation by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the mining company Las Bambas...The communities demand that Supreme Decree 011-2016-MTC that approved the new categorization of this road as a national highway be nullified.
