An investigation is underway and work has been partially suspended at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan yard in South Korea, after the second fatal accident this month at the company’s facilities.

HD Hyundai...confirmed that a worker had been killed...after being caught between a gondola and an upper platform while working at the outsourcing dock of its shipbuilding business unit.

Local media...reported that an Uzbek national...had been crushed while working inside the cargo hold of a liquefied natural gas carrier...

The Busan Dongbu branch of the Busan Regional Office of Employment and Labor...issued a partial work suspension order, and work involving ship construction within the dock of HD Hyundai’s Shipbuilding Business Unit is currently partially suspended...

Saturday’s workplace death came just nine days after another worker suffered a fatal fall at subsidiary HD Hyundai Marine & Structure Company’s (formerly HD Hyundai Mipo) Ulsan yard.

HD Hyundai confirmed that this death on 9 July resulted from a fall accident during overhead crane maintenance work in the plate joining shop...

“The company plans to conduct company-wide special safety training and implement measures to prevent recurrence,” HD Hyundai said in a statement to the Korea Stock Exchange...
