Ugandans go to the polls on January 14, 2021, in an election season that has seen violence and restrictions on campaigning.

Facebook moved to suspend a number of accounts belonging to Ugandan government officials accused of seeking to manipulate public debate.

Anticipating the possibility of an internet shutdown, the #KeepItOn Coalition is calling on the government to ensure open, accessible, and secure internet access for all throughout the election period and beyond.

On January 12 the government blocked social media and messaging apps including Facebook and WhatsApp, widely used for campaigning.
