USA: Uber settles third test case in federal litigation over alleged sexual assaults by drivers

Uber has settled the third federal bellwether, or test, case in multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving claims of sexual assault by its drivers, shortly before the trial was due to begin in Texas.

The settled case involved sexual assault allegations against a driver whose background check by Uber failed to flag a pending sexual-assault charge. Terms of the settlement have not been made public.

Two earlier federal bellwether cases resulted in damages awards of USD8.5m in Arizona and USD5,000 in North Carolina. The MDL includes 4,916 pending cases.
