MCA COMMENT ON CONTRACTS WITH UK BORDER FORCE

Tamzen Isacsson, Chief Executive of the Management Consultancies Association, said:

"We serve public sector organisations across the UK by providing specialist expertise and innovative solutions. Our support helps the government with critical operations, leading to significant improvements in public sector services and delivering positive outcomes for society and taxpayers.

“It is unrealistic to expect the government to maintain a vast pool of private sector experts and resources. It is far more cost-efficient to utilise these experts for short-term projects that enhance the efficiency and delivery of essential national services, such as border security.

“The government faces an unprecedented series of complex challenges at its borders. With stretched resources, the UK is at greater risk of trafficking and the Home Office could struggle to meet its statutory requirements and it is through the support delivered by consulting industry that has contributed to the reduction in the trafficking of humans over land. We have provided surge capacity for the government and also negotiated better commercial strategies and contracts for them with other suppliers. One award-winning project enabled the government to find additional housing capacity for destitute asylum seekers, reducing reliance on costly hotels and adding 30,000 more accommodation places at 83% lower costs.

“We are fully committed to working with the government to maximize the value of our work, which is heavily scrutinised by government commercial officers and our member firms are procured through competitively tendered Crown Commercial Service frameworks, which evaluate bidding firms against quality and cost criteria."
