Japan: Tohoku residents worry "Recovery Olympics" will interfere with earthquake & tsunami reconstruction efforts

The Japanese government has argued that the 2020 Tokyo Olympicscoined "Recovery Olympics"will contribute to reconstruction efforts in the Tohoku region following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, which killed over 15,894 people. However, residents voice concern that the Olympics is diverting government spending away from recovery projects in northern coastal areas. Others also raise questions about the safety of holding Olympic events in Fukushima, where reports of radiation hot spots have emerged.
