Portugal: Workers' issues reportedly resolved following factory insolvency
“Impasse at SINOVIR resolved: Workers can now register at the job centre”, 3 December 2024
The impasse affecting the 80 or so workers at the SINOVIR shoe factory in Novais, Famalicão, has been overcome.
According to what Cidade Hoje has learnt, the insolvency administrator has begun the process of handing over the necessary documentation to release the workers from the company. This step allows the employees to register with the job centre and access unemployment benefit, which is already happening, alleviating the delicate financial situation faced by some families.
It should be remembered that SINOVIR closed at the end of September, but the workers were still officially linked to the company, unable to look for work and without any kind of income.
With this resolution, it is hoped that the employees will now be able to regularise their situation and soon receive the salary arrears accumulated during this period.
