Q'eqchi' authorities from the Chapín Abajo community, in the southern area of El Estor, received three calls allegedly from the phone number currently used by journalist Juan Bautista Xol, who is part of Prensa Comunitaria. During the calls, the authorities managed to hear the voice of a man who invited them to a meeting, the journalist said. One of the authorities immediately contacted the journalist and when asked, he replied that he had not made any calls, to the point, Xol said, that he suspected that unknown persons were using his name to criminalise the local leaders. Bautista Xol has given journalistic coverage to different issues that put part of the Q'eqchi' population at risk, such as the attempts to evict the community in relation to the activities of the companies CGN, Pronico and NaturAceites.
