UAE: ITF condemns alleged abandonment of Indian, Bangladeshi & Ukrainian workers on oil tanker owned by Glory International FZ-LLC; incl. co. non-response

In August 2025, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) reported that 19 seafarers from India, Bangladesh and Ukraine have been abandoned on the ‘Global Peace’ oil tanker, allegedly owned by Glory International FZ-LLC, off the coast of the UAE.

This is a shocking case of abandonment that shines a light on how seafarers can be unseen victims of the illicit oil trade – it’s imperative that the UAE’s maritime authorities act now to save these seafarers and put an end to their ordeal.
ITF Inspectorate Coordinator, Steve Trowsdale.

The workers have allegedly been on the ship for 15 months, while their contracts expired more than five months ago, and their right to repatriation has been ignored.

The ITF calls on maritime authorities in the UAE to act. It highlights that the human rights abuses break international law under the Maritime Labour Convention 2006. The ITF has filed the abandonment with the joint International Maritime Organization and International Labour Organization abandonment database.

In October 2025, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Glory International FZ-LLC to respond to the allegations. It did not respond.
