French public prosecutor drops investigation over Auchan allegedly misleading customers on labour conditions in supply chain

“Probe dropped into Auchan role at Rana Plaza,” 3 Feb 2015

An investigation into…Auchan’s involvement in the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh, which killed more than 1,100 people, has been dropped less than a year after it begun. Last May, France’s public prosecutor opened a preliminary inquiry into whether the supermarket giant misled consumers on the labour conditions under which its products – in particular clothing – were manufactured…Auchan denied it ever placed any orders with any of the factories at Rana Plaza, and said it never had any business relationships with the manufacturers working in the building. A spokesperson for the company…[on 2 February] said the investigation had been dropped, but declined to comment any further on the matter...
