The Norinchukin Bank response re- new Resource Centre report on migrant worker abuse on renewables projects in Saudi Arabia
At first, please kindly understand that we cannot disclose anything about each transactions itself due to the confidentiality.
Under that premise, I’d like to explain our fundamental approach to such human rights related issues.
The Norinchukin Bank has established a policy titled "Policy on Environment and Social Considerations in Financing and Investments Activities" based on its fundamental policies regarding environmental issues and respect for human rights, namely the "Environmental Policy" and the "Human Rights Policy." As part of the investment and financing decision-making process, we confirm compliance with the "Equator Principles" and support our clients' efforts to address the environmental and social considerations required according to the project's category.
If we detect that a client may be involved in significant human rights risks, including forced labor, during the transaction period, we assess the severity of the situation and the client's response. If necessary, we engage in efforts to request improvements.
