On 20 March 2019, Wei Zhili, the editor and co-owner of Shenzhen-based online labour news portal Xinshengdai, was arbitrarily detained at his parents' house by Shenzhen Public Security Bureau's Longhua branch. His phone and computer were confiscated. Zheng's wife believes that he and his coworkers were arrested for reporting labor issues and the prevalence of lung disease among construction workers in Shenzhen. Ke Chengbing is Wei’s colleague. The same night that Wei Zhili was arbitrarily detained for his work as a labour editor, Ke Chengbing went missing. Their detention happened after they covered the case of migrant workers in the central province of Hunan who are suffering from lung disease after working in bad labor conditions in the construction sector.
