Anti-child labour drive running out of steam [India]

The [Hyderabad] labour department's much publicized crackdown on people employing child labour hasn't exactly had much of an impact. Welding and mechanic shops...still employ a large number of children under 14 years of age...A long-time resident of Yousufguda said: "There are many slums in the surrounding areas. Hence it is easy to get child workers. Taking advantage of this, shop-owners look to employ children as the wages paid them are very low, and they are not slackers"...Child rights activists are demanding that immediate action be taken to rescue children from this exploitative practice.
