"5 RMG factories undergo indefinite shutdown in Gazipur", 2 July 2026
The management of Lithe Group has announced the indefinite closure of five of its garment factories in Gazipur, leaving around 3000 workers unemployed...
According to the notice, the factories affected are Apparel-21 Ltd, Fomcom Fashion Ltd, Fomcom Dyeing Ltd, Fomcom Printing Ltd, and Fomcom Knitting Ltd.
The shutdown notice stated that the factories have been suffering heavy financial losses due to several factors, including the suspension of gas supply, a decline in purchase orders, uncertainty over future orders, repeated labour unrest...a significant drop in product prices, and delays in receiving bank financing.
As a result, the owners said they no longer have the financial capacity to continue operations and have decided to shut down the factories indefinitely...
...a company official said there had been no labour unrest at the factories. “We were working as usual on the day the factories were closed. Suddenly, the closure notice was posted. We are supposed to receive our salaries for May and June, although we did receive our Eid bonus.’
He added that after receiving the notice, few workers formed a human chain at Shram Bhaban in Dhaka. We have also received an informal message that discussions regarding salary payments will be held on 5 July,” the official said...
The Daily Sun was also unable to obtain a response from FM Kabir Mohiuddin, managing director of Lithe Apparels Ltd, despite repeated phone calls.
