Brazil: 5 years after the collapse of the Fundão dam operated by Samarco (Vale & BHP), that killed 20 and affected thousands, victims describe ongoing health & economic impacts

On the eve of the 5th anniversary of the Fundão dam rupture, in Mariana/Minas Gerais, Brazil, which belonged to the mining companies Samarco, a joint venture of Vale and BHP, affected communities claim that there has not been just and effective reparation; no resettlement has been done to date; people are sick and Court proceedings are slow. A member of the Public Federal Prosecutor’s Office explains the agreements signed in Court and alleges there has been non-compliance and obstacles promoted by the companies.
