“Lobé-Kribi iron mining project in southern Cameroon: Between promises of economic development and the distress of local communities”, December 2025
Through this publication, Youth for Promotion of Development - YPD sheds light on the realities experienced by communities living around the Lobé industrial iron mining project, while presenting factual findings from the field.
Based on rigorous fieldwork — including direct exchanges with communities, on-site observations, and in-depth analysis — this study documents in particular:
- The alarming progression of deforestation;
- The gradual degradation of local biodiversity;
- Direct and indirect socio-environmental impacts;
- The grievances, concerns, and demands of affected communities, which are still too often overlooked in decision-making processes.
Beyond official narratives and promises of economic development, this publication highlights the persistent imbalances between industrial interests and the protection of human rights, livelihoods, and ecosystems.
