China will guarantee foreign companies' legal rights: Xi Jinping

The right to participate in worldwide cyber-space governance as equals should be respected by all countries, Xi said [at the 2nd World Internet Conference in Wuzhen]. China already counts 670 million web users and 4.13 million web sites… The government’s move to better regulate China’s cyberspace has had wide support from Internet companies.

“Tech companies, including Apple, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and Microsoft, must be prepared to say “no” to China’s repressive Internet regime and put people an d principles before profits”, Ronseann Rife, East Asia research director at Amnesty International, said in a release…Beijing has also sought the support from multinational Internet companies for cyber sovereignty.

“We should push for the formulation of worldwide cyberspace rules accepted by all parties as well as an global convention giant terrorism in cyberspace, improve the legal assistance mechanism to fight cyber crimes and jointly uphold peace and security in cyberspace”, Xi said. “We warmly welcome enterprises and entrepreneurs to invest in China, as long as they are in accordance with Chinese laws” Xi emphasized in his speech…
