The defender was shot and killed in the context of a protest against the dam project Hidroituango in the Colombian province of Antioquia. Four opponents of the impacts of the Hidroituango dam were recently killed. The population in the Hidroituango project’s area of influence have undergone 10 forced evictions over the last few years, which resulted in loss of their ways of life and economic subsistence activities of more than 500 families in the area. Company Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) that is in charge of the project responded to our invitation to respond.
