I wrote Caffe Nero a letter

Last year you posted a pre-tax profit of £21.1 million. Despite this...you managed to pay no corporation tax...on the operations of your 560+ coffee shops in the UK. I'm aware that what you do is perfectly legal...but at a time of austerity when vital services face cutbacks, it sticks in the craw. The tax avoided paying...would have helped provide for the care my dad needed while he was in hospital...It would contribute to the running of the schools my nieces and nephews attend, and to the housing benefit claimed by friends working in low-paid jobs...Loyalty cuts both ways. But you...have a disconnect when it comes to responsibilities to paying your dues...I'll be buying my coffee elsewhere.
