On Sunday, March 28, Jaime Jiménez Ruiz, former municipal agent of Paso de la Reyna, recognized for his defense of the Río Verde, was shot and killed. The death occurred two months after the murder of Fidel Heras Cruz, which to date remains unpunished. Jiménez Ruiz, who was shot on the road from Santiago Jamiltepec to Paso de la Reyna, was a member of the committee of the local livestock association and an active member of the Morena party. The organization Educa Oaxaca pointed out that the community of Paso de la Reyna does not have any precautionary measures from state or federal authorities despite the fact that between March 14 and 15, Raymundo Robles Riaño, substitute of the municipal agent, Noé Robles Cruz, and Gerardo Mendoza Reyes were murdered in the Barrio Chico of Paso de la Reyna. The organization, which has accompanied the process of defense of the territory against hydroelectric megaprojects and extractivism, identified that Paso de la Reyna "suffers from cacique authoritarianism and impunity, which are the structural causes of the violent departure of five of its citizens this year".
