Monsanto response to “The Children Behind our Cotton”, Environmental Justice Foundation

The report states on page 20, “However, in other states, like Karnataka, Gujarat (now the country’s largest cottonseed producer) and Tamil Nadu, where Bayer and Monsanto are reportedly substantially increasing their seed sourcing, the problem has not been addressed." Unfortunately, this statement is incorrect with regard to Monsanto. In the 2007 season, Monsanto addressed child labor issues in all of the regions where we sourced hybrid cotton seed including Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. As we are not currently sourcing hybrid cotton seed in Karnataka, we do not have an active program there...
