Response by Deutscher Fußball-Bund (German Football Association)

Human rights are universal, indivisible and not to be called into question. The human rights situation in Qatar is being intensively discussed within the DFB, whose national team is not qualified for the tournament at this point in time. Together with independent experts, as well as representatives from sport, politics and non-governmental organisations, we are engaging in constant exchange. We expect the organisers of international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup to take appropriate measures to protect human rights and comply with international standards. In accordance with its statutes and values, the DFB is committed to alleviating – or, ideally, eliminating – grievances and respecting human rights within its sphere of influence.
