Miner killed in rock collapse at Taimyrsky mine in Norilsk, 27 January 2025

On 26 January, an emergency incident occurred at the Taimyrsky mine in Norilsk, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old mine drifter. According to the regional Investigative Committee, at around 5 a.m., at a depth of 1,350 meters, rocks collapsed onto the worker due to a sudden detachment of rock mass. The worker could not be rescued.

Investigators have launched an inspection into the incident to determine its causes and to decide whether to open a criminal case. The mine belongs to Norilsk Nickel, which has established a commission to conduct an internal investigation. Company representatives stated that the facility continues to operate as usual.

Norilsk Nickel confirmed that the deceased employee was at his workplace at the time of the accident.
