Over 6000 villagers in Thailand's Phichit and Phetchabun provinces are allegedly affected by the mining operations of Akara Resources Public Company Limited, a Thai subsidiary of the Australian company Kingsgate Consolidated Limited. Akara is allegedly unwilling to provide compensation for the alleged adverse impacts of its operations on the locals' livelihood or to restore the environment.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Akara and its parent company Kingsgate to respond to the allegations in the report. The companies did not respond.

In 2016, a class action against Akara Resources was filed by representatives of over 300 local residents. In March 2026, the court ruled in favour of the plaintiffs, ordering compensation and rehabilitation of contaminated water sources. This is the first victory of an environmental class action in the country.
