Uganda: Govt. official warns against harassment & intimidation of civil society activists including those dealing with oil governance

"Aronda warns security officials against harassing activists"

The Internal Affairs minister, Gen Aronda Nyakairima, has warned security officials against harassing and intimidating civil society activists. “Use CSOs as allies. We shall be sitting and dialoguing without any threat or intimidation so that we build our country. Why should you limit your sources of information? Be welcoming and friendly to them,” Gen Nyakairima said...

The civil society activists had earlier accused some Resident District Commissioners of blocking them from convening meetings to discuss oil governance issues in Bunyoro sub-region. The Executive Director of Civic Response on Environment and Development, Mr Bashir Twesigye, said RDCs have on several occasions blocked oil conferences and they direct the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to first get clearance from the Petroleum Exploration and Production Department (PEPD).
