UMC rights monitor raises issues in Firestone Agreement [Liberia]

The Human Rights Monitor of the Methodist Church has identified four major issues within the new Firestone [part of Bridgestone] agreement to be considered by the Legislature. The group said the right given the Firestone PPD [Plant Protection Division], the term of the agreement, wages for workers and the provision of basic social services are issues to consider. The Executive Director of the rights group said the right given the company security under the new agreement to detain people for forty-eight hours is worrisome.
