[DOC] Response of John O’Reilly to Newmont Ghana’s statement regarding incident involving shooting of protesters by police at New Abirem, Ghana

While Newmont has expressed regret at the outcome of the incident, it has apparently done little else to follow through on what was clearly a very serious human rights incident. The Voluntary Principles on Security & Human Rights, to which Newmont has committed itself, are clear on companies’ responsibilities in such circumstances... At the very least in this instance, I would have thought the company should request an independent investigation of the attack.
