On 7 April 2017, a woman close to Marylen Serna Salinas, a human and peasant's rights defender, was kidnapped, interrogated, tortured and sexually assaulted by 3 unidentified men in Popayan, Colombia. The criminals called Marylen to confirm her relationship with the victim.
