On 29th March 2020, armed men entered the mayangna indigenous community, burnt down 16 houses, killed four male indigenous leaders and injured two people. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has alleged that the armed men are linked to groups who are illegally taking over indigenous territories for agricultural projects. The attack has been condemned by the Inter-American Human Rights Commission.
