Apple CEO condemns tech company abuse of user privacy & voices support for federal privacy law protecting right to privacy, access & security

"Tim Cook: Personal data collection is being 'weaponized against us with military efficiency," 24 Oct 2018

Apple CEO Tim Cook blasted Silicon Valley tech companies and their abuse of user privacy in a keynote address at a privacy conference in Brussels Wednesday, saying personal information is being "weaponized against us with military efficiency."... "Your profile is then run through algorithms that can serve up increasingly extreme content, pounding our harmless preferences into hardened convictions," Cook said... "We shouldn't sugarcoat the consequences. This is surveillance. And these stockpiles of personal data serve only to enrich the companies that collect them... This should make us very uncomfortable."... Apple's chief executive lauded the "successful implementation" of GDPR... "We at Apple are in full support of a comprehensive federal privacy law in the United States. There, and everywhere, it should be rooted in four essential rights," Cook said — the right to have personal data minimized, the right to knowledge, the right to access, and the right to security."
