"Award honouring construction firms that protect workers announced", 9 September 2018

An annual award to honour construction firms which best protect their workers’ interests and safety has been launched. The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) announced the prize at the end of discussions which highlighted best practices to protect workers in the construction sector. The BCCI Real Estate and Construction Committee held the sessions at Bait Al Tijjar, in co-operation with the... International Labour Organisation (ILO).  “The details, terms and regulations will be announced soon,” said the committee at end of the three-day meeting. The second day discussed the assessment of the risks of forced labour in companies, the development of pro-labour policy and the basis of fair employment. The event reviewed international criteria for fair employment, labour agents and firms in charge of hiring manpower from other countries, in addition to the non-replacement of work contracts. The final session highlighted world-standard practices to ensure workers’ vocational health and safety, improve living conditions and prevent delayed payments...
